Meet Abbie
I believe that our greatest hurts and greatest healing can be found in the context of relationship; therefore, I work primarily from a Carl Rogers perspective which states that the most fundamental requirement of effective counseling is for the client and counselor develop a strong therapeutic bond. I seek to know my clients as individuals apart from their problems. I strive to be a warm, accepting, and empathetic presence in their lives to create a safe space for verbal processing. I also use a Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy approach which strives to change behavior by identifying negative thought patterns that are inhibiting ideal functioning. Finally, I work to address family-of-origin issues that have impacted the client’s view of self and others.
My experience has primarily been in the outpatient clinical setting. I have worked as a therapist at the University of Mississippi, Region 6 Life Help, and at Leland Medical Center where I continue to be employed part-time. I opened my part-time private practice in Cleveland during the summer of 2018 and recently expanded my hours to be available full days on Thursdays and Fridays. I look forward to growing my practice to a full-scale counseling clinic over the next two years.
When I am not working, I enjoy traveling as much as possible, jogging around Cleveland, spending time with my daughters, and eating my husband’s superb cooking.
